The Cultural Wonders of the South

On October 5, 2024, at the Visionary Stage, Atrium 2, Ground Floor, Siam Center, faculty members along with third-year students from the Fashion and Textile Design Program presented their creative clothing designs. These designs, inspired by the unique way of life, culture, and wisdom of the southern region, are blended with the ideas and creativity of emerging designers, resulting in a distinctive collection titled “The Cultural Wonders of the South.”

.

For this collection, the designers chose to incorporate Batik fabrics, Pateh fabrics, and woven fabrics, which are distinctive to the southern region, blending them with trendy designs to create a unique and standout look. The fabrics were sourced from local entrepreneurs, including Komen Batik, Aiyah Batik, Thai Batik, Sonthaya Batik, the Saphan Pla Group, the Rom Sai Weaving Group, Songkhla Batik, Leelawadee Batik, and the Women’s Community Enterprise Group of Tambon Hua Khao. These unique southern fabrics were seamlessly integrated into modern designs, making the collection truly one-of-a-kind. This initiative is also linked with academic courses, fostering the development of new entrepreneurs in the fashion industry.

The creative works from F.O.S (Fashion of the South) of Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Songkhla, were showcased at the #SiamCenterBIFW2024, alongside students from 11 universities across 4 regions of the country. They took to the Visionary Stage runway at Siam Center under the concept “Envision The Future,” driving Thai fashion into the future with the power of young designers—students from all over Thailand.

We would like to express our gratitude to Siam Center and SiamCenterBIFW2024 for providing the opportunity for the Fashion and Textile Design Program (FOS: Fashion of the South) to showcase our work at this event.
